Export your records to Excel or Google Sheets

Updated Aug 9, 2026

Your data is never locked inside Sheetward. Any app user can download the records — for a report, an audit, or a fresh analysis in Excel — at any time.

Export in three clicks

  • Open the app and open the Export menu.
  • Choose Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Pick where to save the file, and you're done.

Some forms have a header plus line items, like a purchase order with its order lines. The export writes each to its own sheet, so every part of the record stays tidy.

Which file format should I pick?

FormatBest forAnything to know?
Excel (.xlsx)Everyday reporting and analysisRecommended
Google SheetsTeams that work in Google WorkspaceRecommended
JSONHanding data to another systemFine, but not needed for most teams
CSVSimple flat listsOnly available for forms without header and line items

What happens to sensitive data?

Exports protect sensitive fields by default, so a downloaded file doesn't quietly leak private details.

FieldIn a standard exportIf an owner ticks Include sensitive data
SSN fieldsMaskedReal values are exported
Card number fieldsMaskedLast 4 digits only — Sheetward never stores the full card number

Only an owner can tick Include sensitive data, and it reveals real values only where the field type allows it.

Save time on your next import

App Owners and Editors: when you plan to import data later, use an Export file as your Import file template. The columns and layout already match the app exactly, so your import lands without layout mismatches.

Good to know

  • All app users can export app data.
  • Sheetward supports Excel (.xlsx), Google Sheets, JSON, and CSV — CSV only for forms without header and line items.
  • Excel or Google Sheets is the recommended choice for most teams.
