Draft with AIStart here
Describe the app you need and Sheetward drafts the App Specification workbook for you. The AI sits on the authoring side only: it writes a specification you can read, refine and approve, and the deterministic engine builds the app from that specification exactly as it does for a hand-authored workbook.
On New App, choose Draft with AI, describe the app in your own words and give it a name. The draft opens on the normal review step with the model's stated assumptions listed above it. From there you create the app — or download the specification, polish it in Excel and upload it like any workbook.
A description can ask for anything a specification can express:
- Forms, fields, dropdown lists, validation rules and calculated fields — the core of every app.
- A dashboard — ask for one ("include a dashboard with monthly revenue and an order-count KPI") and the draft adds a
Report_sheet. - Additional languages — name them ("support additional languages German, Japanese") and the draft includes the translations. Writing your description in German, Japanese or Arabic adds that language automatically — the specification itself is always authored in English, the app's base language. Each additional language counts as one more AI authoring.
Four example prompts you can copy as starting points:
- "Create a Student List with details – Student Name, Grade, Gender, Age, State, Photo." — Photo becomes a real image field: media types (image, video, audio, document) are inferred from field names.
- "Create an Expense Tracker with details – Expense ID, Description, Date, Expense Category, Amount. Expense ID is auto generated. Expense Category has list of values – Rent, Car, Grocery, Utilities, Travel, Others. Date should not be in the future; Description, Date and Amount are required. All validation errors should have appropriate messages."
- "Create an Invoicing app: Invoice No, Customer, Invoice Date, Due Date, Status (Draft/Sent/Paid). Lines have Description, Quantity, Unit Price; calculate the line Amount and the Invoice Total. Include a dashboard with a monthly revenue trend and an invoice-count KPI."
— a description written in German, naming no language: the specification is still authored in English, and German is added automatically as an app language.
Existing apps have Revise with AI in the Change app dialog: describe the change and the AI edits the app's current specification. You see the standard change preview — exactly which fields are added or removed — before anything is applied. A revision counts as one AI authoring and pays only for languages it newly adds.
If an upload is blocked because the workbook is working data rather than a specification, the error panel offers to reshape it with AI. This is the only AI feature that sends your file's contents to the model, so it asks for your explicit consent first — and values that look personal (email addresses, phone and card numbers) are removed before anything is sent. The reshaped draft replaces real-looking values with generic samples and goes through the usual review.
Each plan includes a monthly allowance of AI authorings, shown on your workspace Usage meter. Every generate, revision or reshape counts as one AI authoring, plus one per additional language drafted. There are no token meters.
