Already work in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or another AI assistant? It can write your App Specification workbook too. Sheetward publishes a reference written for AI assistants — every sheet, rule and data type, with a complete example — at sheetward.com/app-specification.md. The assistant writes the workbook; you upload it and approve it like any other.
How it works:
- Ask your assistant to read the reference and describe the app you need — the prompt below is a good start.
- Get the workbook. Assistants that can create files give you an .xlsx. Others give you one table per sheet: paste each into a sheet with that name in Excel or Google Sheets.
- Upload it on New App. Sheetward checks it and opens the review step; nothing is built until you approve.
- Fix what the check finds in the workbook. If the upload is blocked, the error panel can also let AI reshape the workbook for you.
A prompt you can copy (replace the part in brackets):
“Read https://sheetward.com/app-specification.md and follow it exactly. Then create a Sheetward App Specification workbook (.xlsx) for [describe your app: the records you track, their fields, the lists to choose from and the rules that must hold]. Use fictional sample data only, and tell me any assumptions you made.”
Your own assistant or Draft with AI? Draft with AI, on the Create with AI card, checks and repairs its draft before you see it and counts toward your plan's AI authorings. Your own assistant uses no AI authorings, but you upload the result and fix any problems yourself.
Your assistant is a separate service with its own terms. Describe your app, not your data: never paste real customer records, passwords or personal details into it. A specification needs only field names and made-up sample values.
