Starting from a templateStart here
Every app starts from an App Specification workbook. If you would rather not author one from a blank sheet, the Template Gallery at sheetward.com/templates/ offers six ready-made specifications to download, adapt and upload. Each is a complete working specification rather than a fragment, and each one demonstrates something different:
- Employee Register — a single-section form with master-data lookups, validation rules and encrypted sensitive fields for values such as a national ID.
- Travel Claims — a claim header with an itemised expense section, showing validations and formulas that work within and across sections.
- Vendor Invoice — header, line items and a totals section, showing field derivations: choosing a vendor or a product fills the related fields for you.
- Purchasing App — the multi-form example: a Purchase Requisition and a Purchase Order joined by a relation, so one record opens from the other.
- Sales Order App — an order form with dashboards: KPI tiles, pivots and charts defined on
Report_sheets. - Asset Register — an asset form authored in several languages, showing how one workbook serves English, German, Japanese and Arabic users.
Download a template, open it in Excel or Google Sheets and change whatever you need — rename fields, add or remove sheets, adjust the rules. Then create an app from it exactly as you would from your own workbook: New App, then Use a Specification Workbook.
Capabilities are additive. Not every app needs every feature — a single-section form with a couple of lookups is a complete app. Start from the template closest to what you need and add only what your app actually uses.
